“I respectfully express my condolences to the families and friends

The Icheon warehouse fire that occurred last week has taken so many lives. I would like to pray for the repose of the deceased and extend my deepest condolences to the families of those victims. The government should thoroughly investigate the tragic accident to find fundamental causes that contribute to such an accident, such as work structure and safety management systems. The ruling DPK will form a special committee for workplace safety and take this accident as an occasion to revise laws and regulations related to disaster preparedness in order to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future. Where profitability takes precedence over everything else and backward subcontract structures are in place, it is more likely that disaster preparation costs will be taken lightly. People’s lives and safety are so priceless that they cannot be converted into monetary value. So the state must protect them. As seen in the Goseong wildfire case that occurred this year, effective and thorough preparedness can minimize economic costs. In this sense, the ruling DPK will make a key policy task of the 21st National Assembly the realignment and strengthening of laws and regulations related to disaster preparedness. Once again, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to those firefighters who devoted themselves to containing the fire in Goseon, Gangwon Province. 

“이천물류창고 화재, 고인의 명복을 빕니다.”

  지난주 이천물류창고 공사현장 화재 사건으로 많은 분들이 희생됐다. 고인의 명복을 빌고 유가족들께 심심한 위로의 말씀을 드린다. 정부는 철저한 조사로 화재 원인을 규명하고 이런 참사가 일어날 수 있는 작업 구조나 안전 관리 제도 등 근본적인 원인들을 규명해야 한다. 당도 ‘노동현장안전특위’를 구성해서 재난대비 관련, 법과 제도를 다시 한 번 정비하는 계기로 삼도록 하겠다. 수익성이 강조되고 하청구조가 후진적일수록 재난 대비 비용을 경시하는 풍조가 생길 수밖에 없다. 사람의 생명과 안전은 결코 비용으로 환산될 수 없는 가치이며, 국가는 이 가치를 수호해야 한다. 올해 고성 산불 진화에서 보듯이, 철저한 대비는 경제적인 손실도 최소화할 수 있다. 당정은 재난 대비 제도 정비와 강화를 21대 국회의 핵심 과제로 삼도록 하겠다. 고성 산불 진화에 헌신적으로 고생하신 소방대원에게도 다시 한 번 고맙다는 말씀을 드린다.
