“Firefighter Chopper Crash Near Dokdo: Utmost Efforts Will Be Made to the End”

Last week a regrettable accident occurred near Dokdo in which a firefighting chopper crashed into the sea near the island. Two of the seven people who were on the doomed helicopter have been identified, but the other five passengers remain missing. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the firefighters who lost their lives in the chopper crash. The government will make every effort to find the missing victims.  

Over the weekend, a terrible incident was reported in which a family of four was found dead in a multi-family housing unit located in Seoul. According to a suicide note that was found at the scene, the mother and her three daughters seem to have made the tragic decision out of hardship and anxiety. As a politician I feel a heavy responsibility. The government needs to actively find ways to tackle life’s difficulties as faced by low-income families, such as the provision of consultation services as well as creating public service jobs.  

The Liberty Korea Party is not attending a meeting that was arranged to solve issues regarding reforms; yet, the main opposition party participates in outside rallies for political disputes. There is not much time remaining in the 20th National Assembly. For this reason, the main opposition LKP should stop wasting precious time and instead focus on improving the livelihood of the people.

지난주에 독도에서 소방헬기가 추락하는 안타까운 사고가 발생했다. 탑승자 7분 중 시신 2분은 수습되었으나 다른 실종자 5분에 대해서는 수색이 계속되고 있다. 순직하신 소방관 여러분께 심심한 슬픔과 함께 경의를 표한다. 정부는 마지막까지 최선도록 하겠다.  

주말 사이 서울의 한 다세대주택에서 일가족 4명이 숨진 채 발견되는 안타까운 일이 있었다. 현장의 유서와 진술에 의하면 생활고와 불안으로 인한 극단적인 선택의 가능성이 높은 것 같다. 정치인의 한 사람으로서 무거운 책임감을 느낀다. 국가는 저소득층의 생활고에 대한 상담과 공공일자리 지원 등을 적극 모색해야 한다.  

자유한국당은 개혁과제를 풀어보자는 정치협상회의에는 불참하고, 장외에서 정쟁을 위한 집회를 하고 있다. 20대 국회가 할 수 있는 시간이 얼마 남지 않았는데, 소중한 시간을 무익한 장외 집회에 쏟을 것이 아니라 1분 1초라도 민생경제와 개혁에 집중해 주시기 바란다.
