[Excerpt from the On-site Supreme Council

on National Reforms]

Today, the on-site supreme council meeting is being held at the Rotunda Hall of the National Assembly. As a politician myself, I think that the last two and a half years have been very tough. The 20th National Assembly has passed less than 30 percent of the bills that were submitted to the Assembly. Only a few of the appointed ministers went through proper hearing processes before taking office, which has been a result of the opposition parties not being cooperative.  

The DPK decided to hold today’s meeting here because we can no longer let the National Assembly remain idle. With the general elections awaiting next year, it is safe to say that the 20th National Assembly?labelled as the worst of all time?in effect, will draw to an end in December. As such, the National Assembly must pass as many pending bills as possible on laws, policies, and budgeting during the remaining two months.  

The ruling DPK will do our best for the remaining two months of the 20th National Assembly. In order to reform the National Assembly, the National Assembly Law needs to be amended. We have to seize the opportunity to correct unjustifiable acts done by certain lawmakers of the Liberty Korea Party who have violated the Act that had been enacted by the party under the then-party leader Park Geun-hye and who are defying the prosecution's summons.

오늘 현장최고위원회의를 국회 로텐더홀에서 하게 됐다. 지난 2년 반은 아주 어려웠던 시기라고 생각된다. 20대 국회에서 법안 통과율이 30%가 안 되고 제대로 장관들을 청문절차를 통해서 정상적으로 임명한 적이 거의 없다. 야당이 발목잡기를 했기 때문이다.  

이런 국회를 더 이상 둬서는 안 되겠다는 판단으로 현장최고위원회의를 열었다. 선거가 있기 때문에 사실상 올 12월이면 최악의 국회라고 하는, 20대 국회가 끝난다고 봐야할 것 같다. 남은 두 달 동안이라도 계류 중인 법률, 정책, 예산 등을 최대한 많이 처리해야 된다.  

앞으로 남은 국회동안 최선을 다해서 하겠다. 국회를 근본적으로 국회법을 고쳐서 개혁하지 않으면 안 된다. 박근혜 대표 때 본인들이 만든 국회선진화법을 무시하고, 검찰의 요구에도 응하지 않는 잘못된 자유한국당 의원들의 태도를 근본적으로 개선할 수 있는 기회를 갖도록 해야겠다.
