Today, we are all here to discuss ways to strengthen the competitiveness of the data industry, a key industry that will play an instrumental role in leading Korea to innovative economic growth. We came to K-weather Headquarters, Korea’s first weather information service provider that is playing a pioneering role in the private weather consulting industry in Korea.

The Moon Jae-in administration has approved the commercialization of 5G technology for the first time in the world, laying the foundation for a hyper-connected intelligent economy; the administration has also demonstrated its strong commitment to deregulation and institutional reorganization to promote new industries, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The data industry can be viewed as a major driving force behind the fourth industrial revolution where hyper-connectivity underpinned by big data will be essential. In this sense, we have arranged to hold today’s on-site executive council meeting to take a look at the current state of the data industry in Korea.

The government and the ruling DPK are considering investing heavily in industries that will contribute to acceleration of innovative growth. To this end, the ruling DPK will make the utmost efforts to pass related bills during the last regular session of the National Assembly.

With Korea facing significant difficulties in the wake of Japan’s economic provocation, the ruling DPK has concentrated available resources to achieve Korea’s economic independence. As part of these efforts, the DPK has sponsored a materials, parts, and machinery industry act, and determined which is the best direction forward. It is fortunate that the trade situation has been much less concerning than originally feared. The ruling DPK will make great endeavors to help related bills pass the National Assembly.

오늘 이 자리는 혁신성장을 위한 핵심 산업인 데이터 산업 경쟁력을 모색하기 위해 만든 자리다. 이곳 케이웨더는 국내 최초의 기상서비스 전문기업으로 날씨컨설팅 민간시장의 선두주자다.

문재인 정부는 세계 최초 5G 상용화를 시작하는 등 초지능·초연결 기반을 구축했고 ICT 등의 신산업이 성장하기 위한 규제철폐와 제도 정비에 노력해왔다. 데이터산업은 빅 데이터의 초연결이 관건이 되는 4차 산업혁명 시대의 핵심 산업이라고 할 수 있다. 그런 의미에서 데이터산업의 현황을 점검하기 위해 오늘 현장 최고위를 개최하게 되었다.

당정은 ‘혁신성장 가속화’를 위해 내년 예산을 중점 투자할 것이다. 가장 중요한 것은 ‘빅데이터경제3법’을 통과시키는 것이다. 이번 정기국회에서 반드시 통과시킬 수 있도록 최대한 노력하겠다.

그리고 일본의 경제도발 때문에 여러 어려움을 겪고 있는데, 그것을 계기로 ‘소재·부품·장비산업특별법’을 만들어서 경제적 자립에 역점을 두고 있고 어느 정도 가닥을 잡은 것 같다. 우려한 것보다 안정적인 단계로 들어가 다행이다. 이번 정기국회에서 관련법들을 반드시 통과시키도록 노력하겠다.
