“Prosecution Reforms Are the Order of the People

and to This End Bipartisan Efforts Must Be Made”

Koreans are now calling for prosecution reforms, regardless of their conservative or progressive affiliation. The Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor’s Office have thoroughly discussed and reached an agreement on measures in which to carry out much-anticipated reforms without amending related laws. The Justice Ministry and the Prosecution are now in agreement on these reforms.

A proposed bill on the prosecution and judicial reforms is ready to be submitted to the plenary session of the National Assembly starting October 29, and after 15 days from that time, implementation can begin. I wish that for the remaining 15 days, the ruling and opposition parties will make the utmost efforts to help the prosecution reform bill pass the National Assembly.

Over the past week, the African Swine Fever virus was detected in wild boars that were found dead within the civilian passage restriction line located between Cheolwon and Yeoncheon in Gangwon Province. The government has implemented emergency measures to focus on the capture and isolation of wild boars, and the reinforcement of the prevention of infectious diseases. In addition, it is now time for Seoul to make cooperative campaigns with Pyongyang to prevent the African Swine Fever from spreading further. Disasters and epidemics are challenges which all Koreans must counteract. The South Korean government should work together with North Korea to more actively engage in preventing disasters and epidemics. It is hoped that Pyongyang will also positively respond to such a need so as to secure the safety and stability of the people’s livelihood.

 “국민의 명령 『검찰개혁』...여야 없이 합의에 최선 다하길”

국민은 보수와 진보를 넘어 한목소리로 검찰개혁을 외치고 있다. 법무부와 검찰이 법 개정 없이 할 수 있는 검찰개혁 방안에 충분히 논의하고 합의했다. 이제 법무부와 검찰은 따로 없게 됐다.

국회에 상정된 검찰 사법개혁법안도 29일부터는 본회의 상정을 눈앞에 두고 있고, 보름 뒤면 실행이 시작된다. 모든 야당은 지금부터 남은 15일 동안 여야가 검찰개혁과 관련해 법처리를 합의할 수 있도록 최선을 다하기를 바란다.

주말 사이에 철원과 연천 민통선 내에 야생멧돼지 폐사체에서 아프리카돼지열병 바이러스가 검출되었다. 정부는 야생멧돼지 포획과 차단, 접경지역 방역 강화 등의 내용을 담은 긴급대책을 시행하고 있다. 또, 북한과의 협력적 방역이 필요한 시점이 됐다. 재난과 질병은 군사적 경계를 넘어 우리 민족이 함께 대응해야할 과제이다. 정부는 남북 간 방제·방역 협력에 더욱 적극적으로 임해야할 것이며, 북한 정부 역시 안전과 민생을 위한 협력에 호응해주기 바란다.
