“Power Comes from the People…the Government Will Reliably Complete Prosecution Reforms”

Last weekend many citizens, more than expected, gathered in front of the Prosecutors’ Office located in Seocho-dong, downtown Seoul, to call for prosecution reforms. The prosecution needs to recognize that this is the last opportunity for them to join the reform drive. The ruling DPK will make every effort to complete the task of reforming the Prosecutors’ Office even as we are confronted with considerable challenges. Beginning with a complete enumeration survey of whether lawmakers’ children received preferential treatment when they were admitted to elite colleges, the ruling DPK will also be committed to eradicating a wide range of injustices and irrationality present in Korean society.  

The swift passage of reform bills on the establishment of the “Corruption Investigation Agency,” and the readjustment of investigation rights between the prosecution and the police is a key path to the success of the prosecution reforms. The ruling DPK will establish a “Special Committee for Corrupt Prosecutors Reform,” and in conjunction with the Justice Ministry of South Korea will come up with plans for reform that will be carried out in addition to legal means, such as ordinances and regulations, to facilitate the process. These plans will contribute to correct inappropriate behavior of the prosecution from the start.  

This Wednesday (October 2nd) marks the last parliamentary inspection of the 20th National Assembly. Feeling a heavy responsibility as the ruling party, the DPK will sincerely carry out our duties during the parliamentary inspection of the government.

지난 주말에는 서초동 검찰청 앞에 예상했던 것보다 훨씬 많은 시민들이 모여서 검찰개혁을 외쳤다. 검찰은 지금이야말로 스스로의 개혁에 동참할 마지막 기회임을 인식해야 할 것이다. 민주당은 어떤 난관에도 불구하고 검찰개혁을 반드시 성사시킬 것이며, 국회의원 자녀입시 전수조사를 시작으로 우리 사회의 각종 불공정과 부조리를 척결하는데 혼신의 노력을 다하겠다.  

공수처 설치와 검경수사권 조정의 사법개혁안을 하루라도 빨리 처리하는 것이 검찰개혁의 핵심이다. 민주당은 ‘검찰개혁특별위원회’를 가동하고, 법무부와 함께 시행령과 내규 등 법률 이외의 방법으로 할 수 있는 검찰개혁 방안으로 검찰의 잘못된 행동을 기초부터 바꿔내도록 하겠다.  

이번 주 수요일 20대 국회 마지막 국정감사가 시작된다. 집권여당의 막중한 책임감으로 성실히 임하겠다는 의지를 다지겠다.
