“The LKP Should Stop Advancing Its Own Interests and Serve the Public.”

Today, the National Assembly is expected to convene a plenary session in 80 days. The Liberty Korea Party has expressed its willingness to attend parliamentary meetings, including hearings for nominees for Prosecutor General and Director of the National Tax Service, which they can make a political issue of, whereas rejecting the review of an extra budget bill and the organization of a budget committee. I would like to tell the main opposition party of the LKP one thing that it should stop taking only what it thinks benefits the party and think about what the public expect of it.

Tomorrow marks the 69th anniversary of the Korean War, the bitterest history of the country. I would like to pay a tribute to the deceased patriots who sacrificed their lives to defend our country and extend my heartfelt respect to those war veterans who came to South Korea’s rescue under the UN flag.

This week will become a super week: the 2019 G20 Summit will be held and President Moon Jae-in is expected to hold back-to-back meetings with the leaders of the United States, China, and Russia. In addition, U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Seoul. I hope these upcoming developments will give fresh impetus to nuclear talks between Washington and Pyongyang and provide opportunities to cement the international community’s support for the on-going peace process on the Korean Peninsula.

오늘 80일 만에 국회 본회의가 개최된다. 자유한국당은 추경안 심사와 예결위 구성을 거부하면서 검찰총장, 국세청장 후보자 청문회처럼 정쟁의 도구가 될 수 있는 회의는 참석하겠다고 한다. ‘퍼블릭 마인드’를 가지고 원하는 것만 편식해서는 절대로 안 된다는 것을 다시 한 번 말씀드린다.

내일은 우리 민족의 가장 아픈 역사인 6.25전쟁 69주년이 되는 날이다. 나라를 위해 목숨을 바치신 호국영령들의 애국심과 숭고한 희생을 기리며 UN참전용사들의 헌신에 가슴 깊은 경의를 표한다.

이번 주는 슈퍼위크가 될 것이다. 이번 주에 G20회의가 열리고 문재인 대통령께서는 미국, 중국, 러시아 정상과 연쇄회담을 가질 예정이다. 트럼프 대통령의 방한도 계획되어 있다. 한반도 평화에 대한 국제 사회의 지지를 확고히 하고 북미 대화의 동력도 확보될 수 있기를 기대한다.
