April 23, 2018. Excerpt from Opening Statement of the Party’s Supreme Council Meeting

"If the Constitutional amendment of the people comes to nothing, the opposition party should pay for the price"

The historic 4.27 inter-Korean summit is coming up in four days. The attention of the people and the whole world is becoming focused on the Korean peninsula. The inter-Korean summit will be the primal opening of a new era of inter-Korean reconciliation and prosperity, breaking down the agony of division.

Even in the enormous changes surrounding the Korean peninsula, the National Assembly is not getting out of the bitter struggle at tall. Above all, I cannot help feeling sorry before the people.

While opposition parties are engaged in the political struggle, the young people who are suffering from unemployment and the areas that are in crisis due to restructuring are spending their nights with tears of blood. The Constitutional amendment which was promised with the people is being abandoned like a worn-out shoe.

The behavior of Bareun Mirae party that decided to drag down the Moon Jae-In Administration as it might lose against Liberty Korea Party should also be criticized. If the deadline of today's National Referendum Act passes, I am curious as to how the two opposition parties will ask the people to vote for them with conscience.

The constitutional amendment in June is a desperate demand of the people and completing the strict command of the candlelight revolution. We cannot help but ask if they make a promise in front of the candle, and when the candle returns to our daily life, it has revealed its true color.

The opposition party also said that it did not oppose the constitutional amendment, but it confirms that it is only no more than a lie if we look at the current situation. Opposition parties will have to apologize before the people when the National Referendum Act and even the constitutional amendment comes to nothing and they will have to pay for the price. I strongly urge it to stop all political struggles and political maneuvering even today and return to the National Assembly.

"국민개헌 물거품 되면 야당 응분 대가 치러야"

역사적인 4.27 남북정상회담이 나흘 앞으로 다가왔다 . 온 겨레와 온 세계의 주목이 한반도에 쏠리고 있다 . 남북정상회담은 분단의 질곡을 깨뜨리고 남북 화해와 번영의 새 시대를 여는 마중물이 될 것이다.

한반도를 둘러싼 거대한 변화 속에서도 국회는 정쟁의 질곡에서 조금도 벗어나지 못하고 있다 . 무엇보다 국민 앞에 죄송한 마음을 금할 수 없다.

야당이 정쟁에 몰두하는 동안 , 실업에 고통 받는 청년들과 구조조정으로 위기에 처한 지역은 피눈물로 날을 지새우고 있다 . 국민과 철썩 같이 약속했던 개헌은 헌신짝처럼 버려지고 있다 .

자유한국당에 질세라 문재인정부 발목잡기에 나선 바른미래당의 행태 또한 비판받아 마땅할 것이다 . 오늘 국민투표법의 개정시한이 넘어가면 , 도대체 두 야당은 무슨 양심으로 국민에게 표를 달라고 할지 궁금할 따름이다.

6 월 개헌은 국민의 간절한 요구이자 촛불혁명의 준엄한 명령을 헌법적으로 완성하는 것이다 . 촛불 앞에서는 약속을 하고 , 촛불이 일상으로 복귀하자 , 본색을 드러낸 것인지 묻지 않을 수 없다.

야당 또한 개헌을 반대하지 않는다고 했지만 지금의 모습을 보고 있자면 거짓말에 불과했다는 점을 확신하게 한다 . 야당은 국민투표법 , 더 나아가 국민개헌까지 물거품이 되는 순간 국민 앞에 사죄하고 , 응분의 대가를 치러야만 할 것이다 . 당장 오늘이라도 모든 정쟁과 정치공세를 중단하고 국회로 돌아올 것을 강력히 촉구한다.
