April 4, 2018. Excerpt from Opening Statement of the Party’s Supreme Council Meeting

 "Hong Jun-pyo, showing belated color theory... ignorance cannot establish justice"

   ■ Party Chairperson Mi-Ae Choo   A memorial ceremony was held in the Southern part of Jeju Island in which the current President participated for the first time in 12 years after the commemoration ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of Jeju 4.3 Incident. In the past, there was rainstorm and the weather was bad during Jeju 4.3 ceremony, but this year, the largest number of mourners participated in the ceremony in sunny weather. Peace on the Korean peninsula and complete restoration of the honor of 4.3 will be a task that must be resolved by us who had to live the history of division of the Peninsula after liberation. Indifference and ignorance cannot establish justice. As a result of announcing the martial law in the remote island of Jeju and not letting anyone speak of 4.3, we could not properly know the truth about 4.3. Now, it is time for the people in Republic of Korea to properly know the truth and cooperate to establish justice.  Nevertheless, Party Chairperson Hong Jun-pyo of Liberty Korea Party reiterated the belated color theory of the past, claiming that the 4.3 incident was a left-wing incident. One who was brought to a prison at a young age without knowing anything, and a person described as a sinner on the list of the convicted spoke as such in front of the President. "I did not know why I was taken to the prison. I was released because of 6.25 incident broke out, so I participated in war to defend the country. I fought to prevent Communism, risking my life; however, I am called a "commie." Please regain my reputation." The victim, who was 95 years old, said so. Party Chairperson Hong Jun-pyo, can you hear these sounds? I am speaking to Party Chairperson Hong Jun-pyo here once again, that indifference and ignorance can never establish justice. It is no different from saying that 'an elephant has one leg when you see only one leg of an elephant.' At least as of now, please do not overlook the nature of the massacre that it is a massacre of innocent people by the state power of a divided nation and extend the horizon of recognition. Even if the new and old wounds of the South and the North left behind by the history of division are slowly healed, please show the bereaved families of Jeju 4.3 and the citizens who want peace that the spring should come.

 "홍준표 철 지난 색깔론…무지는 정의 못 세워“

 남녘 제주도에서는 70 년을 맞이한 제주 4.3 사건 추념식에 12 년 만에 처음으로 현직 대통령이 참여한 추념식이 거행되었다 . 예년 제주 4.3 은 비바람이 몰아치고 날씨가 궂었지만 올해는 화창한 날씨 속에 사상 가장 많은 추모객들이 참석을 했다 . 한반도 평화와 4.3 의 완전한 명예회복은 해방 이후 분단의 역사를 살아야 했던 우리가 반드시 해결하지 않으면 안 되는 숙제라 할 것이다 . 무관심과 무지로는 정의를 세울 수 없다 . 외딴 섬 제주에서 계엄령을 선포해놓고 어느 누구도 4.3 을 말하지 못하게 한 결과 4.3 대해서 제대로 진실을 알 수 없었다 . 이제 그 진실을 대한민국 국민이 제대로 알아서 정의를 바로 세울 수 있는 힘을 모아야 할 때다 .  그럼에도 자유한국당 홍준표 대표가 4.3 사건을 좌익준동 사건이라며 철지난 색깔론을 복창했다 . 육지 형무소에 영문도 모르고 어린 나이에 끌려와서 수형인 명부에 마치 죄인처럼 기재된 분이 대통령 앞에서 이렇게 이야기했다 . “저는 왜 육지 형무소에 끌려갔는지도 몰랐다 . 6.25 가 터지니까 석방됐는데 , 그 길로 나라를 지키기 위해서 참전을 했다 . 저는 더는 목숨을 걸고 공산주의를 막아 내기 위해 싸웠는데 저를 빨갱이라고 하니 저의 명예를 회복시켜 주십시오 .” 올해 95 세인 희생자께서 그렇게 말씀하셨다 . 홍준표 대표님 , 이런 소리가 들리는가 ? 무관심과 무지는 결코 정의를 세울 수 없다는 것을 홍준표 대표께 이 자리에서 다시 말씀드린다 . ‘코끼리의 한 쪽 다리만 보고 코끼리는 다리가 하나다 ’라고 하는 것과 다르지 않다 . 지금이라도 분단국가의 국가권력에 의한 양민학살사건이라는 본질을 외면하지 마시고 그 인식의 지평을 넓혀주시길 바란다 . 분단의 역사가 남긴 남과 북의 상처에 새 살이 돋기를 더디 오더라도 봄이 꼭 오고야 만다는 것을 제주 4.3 유족들과 평화를 바라는 도민에게 보여주시길 바란다 .
