“Ways to Return what the party received from fellow Koreans.”

It is the first Supreme Council Meeting held since the 21st general elections last week. Now is the time for the party to move away from the election preparation system and the jubilation over the election victory and commit itself to state affairs and party affairs. Although the number of the DPK’s parliamentary seats fell in Yeongnam Province, the number of votes the party garnered at district electorates significantly rose. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to voters for their strong support. In return for the nationwide support, the party and its members must feel responsibility and humbly engage in state affairs.

  In coping with the national health crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak, it will be a particularly important period until the end of this year. Although there are many things for the party to handle, including preparations for the opening of the 21st National Assembly and the upcoming party convention, priorities must be given to the overcoming of the national crisis and the containment of negative impacts of the ongoing coronavirus disease on the economy. Those who cast their valuable votes for the party want the DPK to invest all its resources and energy in stabilizing state affairs and overcoming the public health crisis. We should always keep in mind the will of the public. As the leader of the ruling DPK, I will not let my guard down until my term ends, carefully taking care of related policies and party affairs. At the same time, I would like all DPK lawmakers, elected members of the 21st National Assembly, and party executives to do your utmost to repay the party supports’ favor.  

“국민에게 보답하는 길”

  지난주 21대 총선 이후 오늘이 첫 최고위원회의다. 이제 당은 총선체제에서 벗어나 평상심을 갖고 국정운영과 당무에 임할 것이다. 이번 총선에서 국민들께서 사상 최고의 성원을 보내주셨다. 영남에서도 비록 의석은 줄었지만, 지역구 득표율은 큰 폭으로 올랐다. 국민들께 감사드린다. 이런 전국적 지지에 보답하기 위해서라도 막중한 책임감을 갖고 겸허한 자세로 국정에 임하도록 하겠다.

  코로나 국난극복과 경제위기 대응에 앞으로 연말까지가 매우 중요한 시기다. 21대 개원 준비도 있고, 전당대회도 앞두고 있어서 일정이 많지만 당 운영의 핵심은 여전히 국난극복과 비상경제 대응에 두도록 하겠다. 국민께서 안정적 국정운영과 코로나 국난극복을 위해 민주당을 지지해 주신 것이다. 그 뜻을 한시도 잊어선 안 된다. 저부터 관련된 정책과 당무를 다잡고 임기가 끝날 때까지 긴장을 놓지 않겠다. 민주당 의원님들, 당선자들, 당직자들 모두 정신을 바짝 차리고 함께 최선을 다해야겠다. 그것이 국민에게 보답하는 길이다.
