“We feel a sense of great responsibility rather than a sense of happiness”     □ April 16th, 2020 (Thu.) □ Venue: Main Building of the National Assembly (Room 245)■ Lee Hae-chan, Chairperson of the Election Campaign Committee   The 21st general elections were over yesterday. Above all, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to fellow Koreans who showed strong support for the ruling Democratic Party of Korea in the elections. I feel a sense of great responsibility rather than a sense of happiness at winning the elections. Now I and the ruling DPK are fully aware that when it comes to making the 21st National Assembly wholly different from its predecessors and function properly, as well as bringing the nation together, the ball is in the ruling DPK’s court. I promise we will never forget the sincere and desperate wishes we had during the run-up to the elections.

From now on, the ruling DPK is going to set off toward a new National Assembly and a new future like a ship fully loaded with freight heads back to the open sea. Working hard with the government, the ruling DPK will do our utmost to overcome the ongoing public health crisis caused by coronavirus disease 2019 and cope with the resulting economic difficulties positively and preemptively. We will work harder, more humbly, and more sincerely in order to meet the expectations of the voters who showed their strong support for the ruling DPK. I would like to thank all candidates of the DPK for their hard work and congratulate those elected. Once again, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to fellow Koreans for your support.

“선거 승리의 기쁨에 앞서 무거운 책임감을 느낀다”

  21대 총선이 어제 끝났다. 먼저 저희 민주당에 큰 지지를 보내주신 국민 여러분께 다시 한 번 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드린다. 어제 선거 결과를 보면 선거 승리의 기쁨에 앞서 무거운 책임감을 느낀다. 이제 21대 국회를 이전과는 전혀 다른 국회, 일하는 국회, 국회다운 국회, 국민을 통합하는 국회로 만들 책임이 온전히 민주당에게 있음을 다시 한 번 마음속에 새긴다. 항상 선거에 임할 때 가졌던 진실하고 성실한 자세 그리고 절실한 마음을 잃지 않아야 한다.

  이제 민주당은 짐을 한가득 싣고 다시 넓은 바다로 향하는 심정으로 새로운 국회 새로운 미래 향해 나아가겠다. 반드시 코로나19 국난을 모범적으로 극복하고 서민 생계와 국가 경제를 위협하는 경제 위기에 선제적이고 적극적으로 대응하겠다. 국민들께서 이번 총선에서 주신 표가 헛되이 되지 않도록 더욱 열심히 겸손하게 진실한 마음으로 일하겠다. 고생하신 민주당의 모든 후보들께 수고하셨다는 말씀을 드리고 당선인 여러분에게 축하의 말씀을 전하면서 다시 한 번 국민 여러분께 감사의 말씀을 드린다. 감사드린다.
