“Only 100 days before the general elections. The DPK will humbly prepare pledges for the people.”

Today a bill designed to rearrange the investigative rights between the Prosecutor’s Office and the police will be put to vote at the year’s first plenary session of the National Assembly. To begin with the bill, we will have to put to vote a bill on the Kindergarten Three Act as well as 180 bills related to the improvement of people’s livelihoods. The main opposition Liberty Korea Party should stay clear of illegal violence and inappropriate filibuster tactics, which will create a negative image of the National Assembly among the public.

Starting from tomorrow, the National Assembly will hold a confirmation hearing for Prime Minister nominee Chung Sye-kyun, which will last for two days. Nominee Chung has extensive experience and great insight into politics, administration, the economy, and parliamentary affairs. Highly valuing the role of the National Assembly, Chung is the ideal candidate for the position, one who is capable of uniting Koreans from all walks of life. I hope the opposition parties do not make indiscreet efforts to mar or take irresponsible political offensive against the candidate at the hearing.

As of today, the 21st general elections are only 100 days away. Whether Korea will return to the era of former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, or move towards reforms and people-oriented politics that have been ushered in by the “Candlelight Revolution,” will be determined by the outcome of the upcoming general elections. The DPK will soon announce carefully prepared pledges for these elections. We have been provided with great input from the “Policy Festival” event that was held in the latter half of last year and have carefully worked on election promises that will improve the lives of ordinary Koreans. We will respectfully prepare ourselves for the remaining 100 days before the general elections.

오늘 새해 첫 본회의를 열어 검경수사권 조정법을 상정할 예정이다. 이를 시작으로 유치원3법, 180개 산적한 민생법안을 처리해야 한다. 자유한국당은 불법폭력과 회의진행 방해로 국민들께 또다시 볼썽사나운 모습을 보여서는 안 될 것이다.

내일부터 이틀간 정세균 국무총리 후보자 인사청문회가 열린다. 정세균 후보자는 정치와 경제, 행정과 국회를 폭넓게 경험하고 의회를 중시하며 국민의 통합과 화합을 이끌 수 있는 적임자다. 야당도 청문회에서 무분별하게 흠집 내거나 아니면 말고 식의 정치공세를 하지 않길 바란다.

오늘이 21대 총선 D-100일이 되는 날이다. 이번 총선 결과에 따라 이명박-박근혜 시절로 돌아가느냐, 아니면 촛불혁명으로 시작된 개혁과 민생중심의 시대로 나아가느냐가 달려 있다. 정성들여 준비한 총선공약도 곧 발표를 시작할 예정이다. 작년 하반기 정책페스티벌에서 좋은 아이디어를 제안 받았고 국민의 삶을 위한 공약을 세심히 준비해왔다. 더 겸손한 자세로 남은 100일을 준비하겠다.
