Today we are at Korea Aerospace Industries, Inc., widely known as KAI, to seek ways to enhance the competitiveness of the aerospace industry in Korea. KAI, a leading aerospace company in Korea which marks its 20th anniversary this year, has designed and produced a wide range of products?from KT-1, a basic trainer domestically developed for the first time in Korea, and T-50, the home-grown supersonic advanced trainer?to the utility helicopter named Surion. In particular, the T-50 and Surion are widely recognized as the world’s top tier supersonic advanced trainer and multipurpose helicopter, respectively, in terms of performance and price.  

The aerospace industry, as an advanced manufacturing business, is now growing globally. More than anything else, the aerospace industry in Korea is a key strategic and highly value-added industry, an area that encompasses defense and economy. The Moon Jae-in administration and the ruling DPK will increase investment in the development of core technologies and offer greater support for the advancement of the industry.  

Earlier this year, the government created an aviation unit within the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and is currently carrying out a variety of new projects. The ruling DPK is planning to set up a special committee for the aerospace industry to provide ample support for the industry’s further development.  

Here, the city of Sacheon in South Gyeongsang Province can be dubbed as a mecca for the aerospace industry in Korea. Sacheon is a city that is home to many small and medium-sized companies, an air force base, and Sacheon Airport. The ruling DPK will make the utmost efforts to help the city of Sacheon evolve into a hub of the aerospace industry both in name and in actuality.

오늘 현장최고위원회는 항공우주산업 경쟁력을 위해 카이(KAI,한국항공우주산업)를 방문했다. 올해로 창사 20주년을 맞은 카이는 국내 기술로 완성한 기본훈련기 ‘KT-1’을 시작으로 초음속고등훈련기인 ‘T-50’, 다목적헬기 ‘수리온’ 등을 개발하고 생산해왔다. T-50과 수리온은 성능과 가격 면에서 세계 최고 수준의 초음속고등훈련기와 다목적헬기로 평가를 받고 있다.  

항공우주산업은 세계적으로 성장세에 있는 선진국형 제조업이다. 무엇보다도 안보와 경제를 아우르는 국가핵심 전략산업이자 고부가가치산업이다. 민주당과 문재인 정부는 핵심 기술에 대한 투자를 확대하고 앞장서서 항공우주산업의 발전을 위해 최대한 지원을 해 나가겠다. 정부는 올 상반기 산업부 내에 항공팀을 신설하고 다양한 신규 사업을 진행 중에 있다. 우리 당도 당 내에 설치한 항공우주산업혁신특위를 통해서 항공 산업 발전을 적극적으로 뒷받침하도록 하겠다.  

이곳 사천은 카이와 여러 중소기업, 공군기지, 사천공항까지 함께 있는 대한민국 항공산업의 메카라고 할 수 있다. 사천이 명실상부한 항공우주산업도시로 발돋움할 수 있도록 당에서도 최대한 노력하겠다.
