Last-Minute Agreement Reached with Unionized Bus Drivers, Planned Strike Avoided

Marathon negotiations between management and unionized bus drivers in Ulsan reached a last-minute agreement. With Ulsan as the last city to join, the nation-wide planned bus strike was canceled, thus preventing buses, the transportation mostly used by ordinary citizens, from coming to a halt. However, as the agreement was reached in Ulsan just hours before a planned strike, chartered buses, as one of the measures prepared for emergency, were put in operation. The government and the ruling party have exerted the utmost efforts to minimize inconvenience to the public. Negotiations continued from morning to late at night in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Busan, and Ulsan, causing public concern over possible transportation chaos. It is truly welcome news that management and labor reached a compromise. Since there are a few matters to settle before details are finalized, the government and ruling DPK will closely monitor proceedings until the end. In Gyeonggi Province where differences between management and labor were exceptionally large, Kim Hyun-mee, Minister of the Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Ministry, Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and I held a closed-door meeting and agreed on bus fare increases, putting trans-regional bus operations under national jurisdiction, and adoption of semi-privatized bus operation systems. Fortunately, the results of these negotiations should ensure smooth bus operations as other cities reached an agreement on raising bus fares in accordance with local conditions and price increases. 

버스 협상 극적 타결···운행에 차질 없어 다행  □ 이해찬 대표  

조금 전 울산을 마지막으로 전국 모든 지역에서 버스 협상이 극적으로 타결되어 버스노조가 파업을 철회했다 . 수도권을 비롯한 모든 지역에서 철회되고 , 서민들의 발인 버스 운행에 큰 차질이 빚어지지 않아서 다행이다 . 다만 울산은 협상 타결이 늦어지는 바람에 준비되었던 대책으로 전세 버스가 투입됐다 . 시민의 불편이 최소화됐으면 하는 바람을 가지고 있다 . 서울 , 경기 , 부산 , 울산 등에서 협상이 아침까지 밤새도록 이뤄져서 시민들의 걱정이 많았는데 잘 타결됐다 . 세부사항은 아직 조금 남아 있기 때문에 당과 정부는 마지막까지 마무리가 되도록 만전을 기하도록 하겠다 . 가장 첨예했던 경기도는 어제 김현미 장관과 이재명 지사와 제가 긴급하게 당정 비공개 회의를 열고 시내버스 요금인상과 광역버스 국가사업 전환과 준공영제를 시행하기로 합의했다 . 나머지 지역들도 지역 실정에 맞춰서 또 물가 인상에 맞춰 요금 조정 등을 해서 다행히 큰 대란 없이 잘 마무리 될 것 같다 .
