Fourth Round of Inter-Korean Talks Expected, Facilitating Discussions of Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula”

This coming Saturday marks the first anniversary of the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration, the agreement between President Moon Jae-in of South Korea and Chairman ofthe . President Moon put an end to the era of confrontation and conflict marked by 10 years of conservative administrations, opening a new era of peace and dialogue on the Korean Peninsula. Since last year, there have been three rounds of inter-Korean talks and two rounds of U.S-North Korea talks. Although yet to be finalized, a fourth round of inter-Korean talks between the leaders of the two Koreas is likely. Discussions on complete denuclearization and establishment of permanent peace of the Korean Peninsula are expected to gather new momentum. A message from U.S. President Donald Trump will also be conveyed to the North Korean leader.

A first summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to be held on April 25. As the head of the ruling party, I am sincerely asking our government to be fully prepared to deal with possible developments and outcomes of the scheduled summit and simultaneously make the utmost efforts to ensure that the upcoming talks will have a positive impact on the ongoing peace process towards making a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. 

“네 번째 남북정상회담 예정…비핵화 논의 탄력 기대”  □ 이해찬 당대표  이번 토요일은 남북 정상의 4.27 판문점선언 1 주년이 되는 날이다 . 문재인 대통령께서는 1 년 전 보수정권 10 년의 대립과 갈등의 시대를 끝내고 한반도의 새로운 평화와 대화의 문을 열었다 . 그동안 세 차례 정상회담 , 두 차례 북미회담이 있었다 . 아직 확정되지는 않았으나 4 번째 남북정상회담이 개최될 예정이다 . 트럼프 대통령의 대북메시지를 포함해 한반도의 완전한 비핵화와 항구적 평화를 위한 논의가 다시 탄력 받기를 기대한다 . 김정은 위원장과 푸틴 대통령의 첫 번째 북러정상회담이 이번 주 25 일 블라디보스토크에서 개최될 것으로 예상된다 . 정부는 북러정상회담 진행 상황과 결과에 대비를 철저히 하는 동시에 이번 회담이 한반도 비핵화와 남북관계 진전에 있어 긍정적으로 작용할 수 있도록 정치? 외교적 노력을 다 해주시기를 부탁드린다 .
