Through Investigation Is Needed for Former Chief Justice Yang without Regard for Self-reflection

Despite considerable public outcry, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Yang Seung-tae appears to continue to indulge in the abuse of authority without regard for self-reflection or apology. It is for the first time in the history of the constitutional government of the Republic of Korea that a former head of the judiciary was summoned before prosecutors. It is deplorable that the former chief justice has yet to offer a direct apology. It is my firm belief that the prosecution must thoroughly investigate the allegations and bring criminal charges against Chief Justice Yang. Otherwise, public distrust in the judiciary will plummet to new depths. Therefore, proper handling of this case by the prosecution cannot be emphasized enough.

As I spoke of yesterday, the Democratic Party of Korea will focus more on stabilizing the livelihoods of the public this year. Now more than ever, dialogue and compromise are of utmost importance. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions is soon expected to hold a meeting of delegates to decide whether the KCTU will participate in the Economic, Social, and Labor Council. It is my hope that Korea’s major umbrella labor union will come to a favorable decision that will contribute to the steady operation of the social dialogue body. In fact, a year such as this, when no elections will be held, tends to see relatively fewer social conflicts arise. With this in mind, I think it is very important to set a precedent this year. In this sense, the DPK will invest all our energy and resources in creating an environment where social dialogue and compromise can prevail.

"양승태, 반성없이 사법농단 계속…검찰 엄격 수사해야"

수많은 비판에도 불구하고 양승태 전 대법원장이 반성과 사죄가 없이 여러 가지로 사법농단을 계속하고 있는 것 같다 . 조사가 진행되겠지만 대법원장이 이렇게 피의자 신분으로 조사를 받는 일은 우리 헌정사상 처음이다 . 그러면서도 아무런 반성이 없다는 것이 개탄스럽다 . 검찰에서는 엄격하게 수사해서 의법처리를 반드시 해야 한다고 생각한다 . 대법원장이 이런 짓을 해도 제대로 사법처리를 못한다고 한다면 법질서에 대한 신뢰를 아무도 믿지 않기 때문에 매우 중요한 사건이라는 점을 다시 한 번 환기한다 .

올해는 경제를 활성화시키고 , 민생을 돌보는데 당이 역점을 두겠다고 어제 말씀 드렸다 . 특히 대화와 타협이 매우 중요한 때다 . 민주노총이 곧 대의원대회를 열어 경사노위에 참여할지 여부를 결정할 것 같은데 아무쪼록 좋은 결과가 나와서 사회적대타협기구가 원활하게 돌아갈 수 있도록 좋은 결정이 나오길 기대하겠다 . 실제로 올해 같은 때가 선거가 없기 때문에 갈등 표출이 비교적 적다 . 그래서 올해 같은 때에 좋은 선례를 만드는 것이 매우 중요하다고 생각한다 . 당에서도 이런 대화와 타협을 할 수 있는 환경을 만드는데 역점을 두도록 하겠다 .
