“Unfounded fake news on new coronavirus mislead the public.”

Ten days have passed since the first case of novel coronavirus was confirmed in Korea. Against this backdrop, it is desirable to consider conducting a complete enumeration survey of those who have recently been to Wuhan and its vicinity areas, utilizing local health centers as a base in countering the spread of new coronavirus from Wuhan in China. In addition, measures regarding livelihood support to those who will be affected by a possible imposition of quarantine, compensation for the loss of medical institutions, and medical expenses need to be put in place. Economics-related government agencies are also encouraged to proactively move to prepare appropriate economic countermeasures. 

As demonstrated in recent cases of public health threats, including the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in 2018 as well as Avian influenza (AI) and foot-and-mouth disease, the Moon Jae-in government’s preventive response system is considerably robust. Since the government is sharing information transparently with the public, I hope our fellow Koreans will not be overly anxious or be fooled by uncertain fake news. The ruling DPK today formed a special committee on coronavirus infection and the President and Prime Minister are pledging to mobilize every possible means to hold the recent outbreak of the Wuhan coronavirus in check. The ruling DPK and the government will make our utmost efforts to properly cope with the current health emergency, preventing the disease from further spreading.

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증 확진 환자가 발생한지 오늘로 열흘째다. 우한 주변 지역 방문자 전수 조사도 검토할 필요가 있으며, 각 보건소를 대응체계의 거점으로 적극 활용해야 할 것 같다. 동시에 환자 진료비와 의료기관 피해 보상, 격리 조치에 따른 생계 지원 등에 대한 대책이 필요하다. 경제 부처도 경제 관련 적절한 대응책을 선제적으로 준비해 주시기 바란다. 

2018년 메르스뿐만 아니라 AI나 구제역 방역 등에서 보여준 바와 같이 문재인 정부의 방역 대응체계는 매우 높은 편이다. 정부가 투명하게 공개하고 있으니 국민여러분은 과도하게 불안을 부추기거나 불확실한 가짜뉴스에 속지 않으시길 바란다. 오늘 우리당은 ‘코로나바이러스감염증대책위원회’를 설치했고, 대통령님과 국무총리께서도 총력 대응을 하고 있다. 당정은 한 치도 방심 없이 대응하여 이번 사태를 무사히 넘기도록 최선을 다하겠다.
