Former First Lady Who Devoted Her Life to Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula”

On June 10 former first lady Lee Hee-ho passed away. She is considered a political comrade of former President Kim Dae-jung. The former first lady is said to have written in her will that she will pray for a peaceful reunification of the two Koreas. It is expected that North Korea will send a delegation to offer their condolences. This coming August marks the 10th death anniversary of former President Kim Dae-jung. I hope that the ruling party will do its best to prepare a memorial event for the presidential couple. 
June 12 marked the one-year anniversary of the first U.S.-North Korea summit held in Singapore in 2018. Regrettably, the summit has yet to produce satisfactory results. I hope that a third summit between Washington and Pyongyang will soon be held, which will contribute to hastening the denuclearization of and peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
The major reason for failure to normalize the National Assembly lies in a breach of the National Assembly Law on the part of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party. Yet, the LKP has continued to lay blame on the ruling DPK party, which is, in my opinion, shameless. As head of the ruling party, I will make the utmost efforts to bring the opposition parties to the negotiation table in order to ensure that causes will be clearly identified and tangible results gained.
 

제 14차 확대간부회의 모두발언

 “평화통일 위해 한평생 노력하신 이희호 여사님, 편히 쉬세요”

□ 일시 : 2019년 6월 12일(수) 오전 9시 30분□ 이해찬 당 대표 이희호 여사님께서 어제 소천하셨다. 여사님은 김대중 대통령의 정치적 동지라고 할 수 있고, ‘평화통일을 위해서 기도하겠다’는 유언을 남기셨다. 북쪽에서 조문단이 오기를 기대하겠다. 올해 8월에 김대중 대통령님 10주기가 다가온다. 당에서도 열심히 준비해서 두 분의 추모행사가 잘 이뤄질 수 있도록 해주시기 바란다.
오늘은 싱가포르 제1차 북미정상회담 1주년이 되는 날이다. 그러나 아직 좋은 성과를 내지 못하고 있어서 안타깝다. 북미정상회담이 2차까지 이뤄졌는데 3차 북미회담이 조만간에 이뤄져서 한반도의 비핵화, 한반도의 평화가 함께 이뤄지길 기대한다.
국회가 정상화되지 않는 근본적인 원인은 자유한국당이 국회법을 지키지 않고 있기 때문임에도 오히려 여당에 책임을 돌리는 것이 ‘뻔뻔하다’는 생각이 들었다. 원인을 분명히 하고 결과를 도출하는 대야협상을 하겠다.
