"South Korea and the United States declare the principle of guaranteeing the North Korean regime...There seems to be a positive signal for North Korea-U.S. summit"

   ■ Party Chairperson Mi-Ae Choo   Early this morning, South Korea-U.S. summit between President Moon Jae-in and President Donald Trump took place. The main purpose of South Korea-U.S. summit was to check the successful hosting of North Korea-U.S. summit to be held on June 12th and discuss the plan of implementation. I think it is a positive signal to North Korea-U.S. summit in the sense that the heads of the two countries have declared the principle of guaranteeing the regime in accordance with the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Democratic Party will make every effort to ensure the successful hosting of the upcoming North Korea-U.S. summit to be held on June 12th based on the achievements of South Korea-U.S. summit.  As the Ministry of Unification decided to accept the list of domestic reporters today once again, we expect to see change in North Korea's proactive attitude. There can be many challenges to reach a successful North Korea-U.S. summit. However, the authenticity of the two Koreas on the Panmunjom Declaration should not be undermined or its historical justification should not be underestimated. We urge you to refrain from making unreasonable assumptions, arguments, and speculative reports that are raised by some of our political circles and some media. To cooperate beyond private interests or strategic interests in the big transition of national history is to correspond to the demands of the people and national interests. Democratic Party has never considered peace as an easy way or a silk road.  

“한미, 北 체제보장 원칙 천명…북미회담 긍정적 신호”

  ■ 추미애 대표 오늘 새벽 문재인 대통령과 도널드 트럼프 대통령 간 한미 정상회담이 이루어졌다 . 이런 한미정상회담은 6.12 북미정상회담의 성공적인 개최 점검과 이행방안 논의가 주목적이었다 . 양국 정상이 북한의 완전한 비핵화에 따른 체제보장 원칙을 천명했다는 점에서 북미정상회담 개최에 긍정적인 신호라 생각한다 . 더불어민주당은 한미정상회담의 성과를 토대로 다가오는 6.12 북미정상회담이 성공적으로 개최될 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다하겠다 .  오늘 다시 통일부가 국내 기자단 명단을 접수하기로 한 만큼 북한의 전향적인 태도 변화를 기대한다 . 성공적인 북미정상회담에 이르기까지 많은 난관이 있을 수 있다 . 그렇다고 판문점 선언에 대한 남북한의 진정성이 훼손되거나 그 역사적 당위성이 폄하되어서는 안 될 것이다 . 우리 정치권과 언론 일부에서 제기하는 근거없는 억측과 주장 , 추측성 보도는 가급적 자제해 주시기를 당부드린다 . 민족사적인 대전환기에 사사로운 당리당략이나 정략적인 이해관계를 뛰어넘어 협조할 것은 협조하는 것이 국민의 요구와 국익에 부합되는 것이다 . 더불어민주당은 평화로 가는 길이 쉬운 길이거나 비단길이라고 생각해 본 적은 단 한 번도 없다 . 그 길이 역경과 고난이 있는 가시밭길이라 할지라도 인내와 끈기를 갖고 한 걸음 한 걸음 나아가겠다 .
