Korea will move forward based upon the robust Seoul-Washington alliance

Lee Jae-myung, Chairman of the DPK made the remark during his meeting with U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Joseph Yoon. I also attended the meeting as the International Chairman of the DPK.

We extended our heartfelt congratulations to President Donald Trump on his inauguration. Then, on behalf of the Korean people, we also expressed our deep gratitude to American government for demonstrating a strong confidence and  consistent support for Korea’s democracy after the declaration of Martial law. 

As Yoon Suk-yeol declared the martial law last December, Korea encountered an unprecedented crisis; December 3rd will be rememberd as the most shocking and fearful tragedy. As the insurrection is yet to be finished, people still have persistent pain and anxiety, which is reflected to our children. Citizens are desperately fighting and enduring each day to get their “normal” lives back for themselves and for their family. The crisis came so abruptly, as if a disaster had struck, but we will eventually overcome it. We will rather turn it into an opportunity where we show the potential of Koreans to the world.

The White House of the United States has expressed its support for the Korean people and appreciated all efforts to act in accordance with the Constitution. Ambassador Yoon has expressed solid support for the Korean people as well and reaffirmed the shared commitment between the United States and Korea. He also stated, “I have no doubt that Korea will overcome the crisis and emerge stronger.”

The wholehearted support from the US will be a critical part in restoration of Korea’s democracy at every step. The DPK will stabilize the ongoing disorder and ensure ironclad ROK-US allience as well as national security.

As Chairman Lee mentioned, Korea will continue to strengthen the ROK-US allience, and as a member of liberal democratic community, we will fullfill our roles and responsiblities.  

“The darkest hour is just before the dawn.”

The DPK will lead from the front until the sun rises, until we stabilize the government and restore people’s livelihood.
