“The 21st National Assembly that will pave the way for the future of Korea.”

  Respectful fellow Koreans! Finally, the general elections for the 21st National Assembly will be held tomorrow. The outcomes of this upcoming election are going to determine how Korea can overcome the national crisis caused by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus and the resulting economic difficulties in steady and exemplary manners.

  Upon the completion of the elections, the ruling DPK will go back to the battle against COVID-19 and be committed to tackling economic difficulties. The ruling DPK promises that we will devote all our resources to bring the nation together and to make Korea the most exemplary country in the world that will successfully overcome the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019.

  The ruling DPK, working together with the Together Citizens’ Party and the government, will make the utmost effort to make the 21st National Assembly become the one that will make productive the Assembly’s system of checks and balances and function properly. I am convinced that the 21st National Assembly will be totally different from the 20th National Assembly. The incoming Assembly will work in a better environment in which every reform bill will be closely reviewed and accordingly implemented with caution.

  In this sense, I call for all members of the party to do your best today, just one day away from the elections, keeping in mind that the 21st National Assembly that will pave the way for the future of Korea is, in terms of historical significance, distinct from the National Assembly that has existed over the last 70 years. I hope we will do our utmost to bring the general elections to a successful conclusion. Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all members of the party for their support and sacrifice.

  존경하는 국민 여러분, 드디어 내일이 21대 총선 투표일이다. 이번 총선은 코로나19 국난과 다가오는 경제 위기를 어떻게 안정적이고 모범적으로 극복할 것인가를 결정하는 선거이다.

  민주당은 선거가 끝나자마자 다시 코로나19와의 전쟁, 경제 위기와의 대응 전쟁에 돌입하겠다. 정부의 모든 역량 민주당의 모든 힘을 다해 국민의 뜻과 힘을 모으고 사상 초유의 글로벌 재난을 세계에서 가장 모범적으로 극복하는 대한민국을 만들어내겠다.

  우리 민주당과 시민당은 문재인 정부와 협력하면서 일하는 국회, 국회 안정과 생산적 견제가 있는 21대 국회를 만들어내겠다. 21대 국회는 그동안의 20대까지 국회와는 전혀 질적으로 다른 국회가 될 것이다. 개혁과제 하나하나를 신중하게 검토해서 차근차근히 처리할 수 있는 아주 좋은 국회 환경이 만들어질 수 있다.

  그런 점에서 그동안 70년에 걸친 20대까지의 국회와 앞으로 민족의 장래를 열어갈 21대 국회는 역사적 의미가 다르다고 생각하고 오늘 마지막 하루 최선을 다해주시길 바란다. 충돌 없이 유종의 미를 거둘 수 있도록 최선을 다해주시길 바란다. 고맙다.
